Cyrix driver fixup - Red Hat people
Palmax pen driver - Red Hat people
Porting/merging the stylistic driver - Red Hat people
URGear driver - Red Hat people (admittedly motivated by a desire to
kick ass at quake not corporate policy)

I believe Mike Harris did a chunk of work on improving 2D acceleration
on Radeon using DRI, but that may have been solely backporting stuff to
older releases.

Maybe you are right, maybe its an education thing. If so the question
becomes 'What is the best way for people to find the current driver for XYZ'
