I think the hope is that there will be only one tree which is active and
in wide use.
While not explicitly stated in the ongoing discussion the question in
the back of many peoples minds is which tree will be adopted if the
current issues cannot be satisfactorily resolved and a split occurs.
If a second tree is brought into existence then I believe one tree or
the other will gain community support and the other will atrophy. It is
this realization that is inducing such strong feelings among the
participants. No one wants to duplicate their efforts especially when we
all realize we are resource constrained. The guiding principle at the
heart is to find a workable solution and move forward, two trees is not
a workable solution.
